Jesus Knew Depression Too

Jesus was perfected by his sufferings, and he cried out in agony and suffering just as we do. He said that his soul was exceedingly sorrowful, even into death. He asked his friends just to come and be with him as he struggled with his emotions and fought with his mind. He didn’t want to go through what the Father had in mind for him, but was willing to go through with it if it truly was God’s will.

He was in agony as he prayed, he was full of heaviness, wanting someone to take pity. He looked for comforters but there were none. Refuge failed him, and no man cared for him.

Despised and rejected, a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief – that is our Saviour. Aren’t you glad that he truly knows how we feel, and that there is no shame in that? He does not think less of us because of our sorrowful emotions and wanting companionship and comforters. He has been there himself and he understands and grieves with us.
